A 175 word blog about Horatio and his role in the ending of the play. What was his part and why do you think a minor character was given such an important charge at the end?
His role at the end of the play in crucial. He has just watched everyone die and Hamlet tells him to not kill himself so he can tell his story. Why tell him this? Horatio is the only character in the story that is truly Hamlet’s friend. He doesn’t betray him and is there for him. He is a minor character, but we remember him because he cares about Hamlet. I think Shakespeare kind of gets you ready for it and then at the end BOOM Horatio is the one that lives and he lives to tell Hamlets story. He is the only one who would tell the truth. He would not sugar coat anything and not play favorites, like other characters would do. It’s usually the people you don’t often see that make the biggest impact though. Now that I think about it, a lot of stories I’ve read are like that. If it wasn’t for that minor character they would have gotten to where they are now. Hamlet dies, but you know what I mean….well I guess you do. lol You don’t have to be a main character to make an impact. 😀
ANd I couldn’t find any pics that I wanted to share 😦 I didn’t like any of them, so alas a boring post with no pics.
A 175 word blog about the betrayal of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Do you think they got what they deserved or did Hamlet overreact? Did R&G have a choice in the matter?
I think they got what they deserved. Sure, the king told them to spy on Hamlet, but they should have come clean to him when he asked them. They could have told the truth, but they lied and said they had no idea what he was talking about. What kind of friends are those. Clearly they were not his friends in the beginning and they are not his friends now. Betrayal is the worst thing you can do to someone. Betraying their trust and going behind their back. It just gets me a riled up. How dare they act like they are still friends. I think that’s what makes it worse, that they are still pretending to be his friend. They knew exactly what they were doing and they didn’t care. They could have lied to the king, but they decided to stick with a king that would kill them instead of a childhood friend that would have done anything for them, have they asked for it. They just wanted to acceptance of the king, so they became his dogs. And look at how that turned out for them. Do I feel sorry for them, no I don’t. They asked for it in the beginning. They made their bed now they have to lie in it, literally. lol wait I shouldn’t laugh at death……. 😀
A 175 word blog discussing Hamlet’s relationship with Ophelia. You might discuss how Polonius factors into the relationship and whether his disapproval of Hamlet’s love for Ophelia is justified.
Hamlet and Ophelia’s relationship was a strange one. Her father said that Hamlet only wanted her for her body and I think she believed it. I mean why would a prince want to marry her, right? UGH How can people be so clueless. Hamlet Loved her and yet she took her father’s side. Hamlet could have cared for her. She is the one that didn’t love him enough. I know Hamlet told her he didn’t love her, but he said that because he knew her father put her up to it. I think it might have broke him when he realized she picked her father instead of him. So He probably gets a little satisfaction seeing her hurt. Gosh they are so complicated. If it wasn’t for Ophelia’s fathers Hamlet’s revenge, the king plotting to kill him, his friends plotting to kill him, OK everyone trying to kill him they would have been married and happily in love. But no! Everyone hates seeing everyone happy. lol They are all like, what can I do today to ruin someone life.
A 175 word blog about whether or not you think Hamlet’s reaction to the ghost of his father is believable and legit. If you think so, discuss why, and if you think not, discuss what was lacking in his reaction.
I think different people will have different opinions on this. To me I think Hamlet being who he is is was a legit reaction. He has courage and he stands his ground and follows the ghost. It’s the ghost of his father, so he is going to listen to it. But then after Horatio warns him he begins to feel fear. What is the ghost means him harm, but his courage wins and he follows the ghost. I think for a normal person it would be a legit response, but for Hamlet it was. Most people would have been scared out of their minds, like me lol I would be too scared to follow it. Ever watched Ghost Whisper? I love this show but *shudders* Nope not today. lol And Hamlet seems a little off the handle, so that could have played a part in him following the ghost of his father. Crazy doesn’t know fear. lol
A 150 word blog about why you think time, youth, beauty, and death are such common themes in poetry, not only Shakespeare’s Sonnets, but most poetry (this includes songs).
I think it’s so popular because it’s what everyone obsesses over. It is constantly on our minds. We never have enough time to do anything. We want to stay young and beautiful forever. And the one thing that no one can escape death. It’s going to happen to everyone and we fear and accept it at the same time. Death and time kind of go hand in hand though. When we run out of time in life, you die. Poetry and songs that deal with those things tend to be read more are listened to because we can relate. we hear the song or read the poetry and we are like that exactly how I feel. I’ve read more poetry about death though, but maybe that’s just me. I usually write my papers on stories or poetry dealing with death. Everyone has a different take on it. It kind of depressing you, but you listen and read anyway.
Write a 150 word blog reaction to one of John Donne’s Quotes from Braineyquote.com. Please include the actual quote itself and your response to it. Why did you choose that one? What does it mean to you?
I picked this quote by John Milton because it’s the first one that caught my eye. Love built on beauty, soon as beauty, dies. Now what is the world does that mean? Well to me it means that, beauty fades and the woman you married because she was beautiful will one day, no longer be beautiful. Don’t marry for beauty marry for love. You can marry the most beautiful woman in the world and still not be happy. Same goes for woman marry handsome men. I’ve met some beautiful people but they had the worst attitude and that to me makes them ugly. Looks should not define you, you should just be you. Anyways, you’ll be happy with them for awhile and like the quote says your love for them will die just as their beauty will.
A 125 word blog about your worst experience writing a paper and why it was so bad. (The idea here is to look at previous mistakes and try desperately not to make the same ones again
I thought of one paper when I read this question. It was my 11th grade year and we had to do a research paper on a certain event. I did my on the great London fire. You would think I would have the whole paper thing down, but apparently I didn’t. For the index citation I put the whole URL address LOL for every quote I used. It was pretty bad. I;m also bad about commas, I hate those little things. they are always bringing down my grades. lol I let me best friend proof read all my stuff now to make sure I didn’t forget anything. I do the same for her. It’s hard to catch your own mistakes. Anyways, I’ve never down that again and I think I always write and pretty great paper, you know according to me. lol But hey if you don’t like it, how is someone else going to like it. I always try and write something I would want to read about.
